Jared Hites has accomplished a lot in his ultrarunning career and he is now adding 200 milers to his belt. We chat about Mammoth 200 and all of his other distances because he likes to mix it up. Great chat about grinding out FKTs during COVID and finding new ways to challenge himself.
Alejandro Corral is jumping into the sport of ultrarunning because he is continuing to try to better himself and set an example for his young kids. Alejandro just finished Run Rabbit Run, which is a very challenging mountainous 50 mile race. He has a growing family and he is finding the balance between training and bring a father. Great chat with Alejandro and I have a feeling this was the first of many challenging races for him.
Ann Trason has won Western States 100 miler 14 times! She also set 20 world records. Honored to chat with her in this latest episode of Weathering The Run to hear stories about the craziest weather she has run through and also what she has been up to lately... Spoiler alert: she is still getting buckles! Connect with her on Instagram to follow her journey.
This week on Weathering the Run, I’m joined by professional ultrarunner, thru-hiker, author and podcast host Jeff Garmire. Jeff and I talk about his incredible adventures on the trails, the role weather can play in big endurance efforts, and the experiences that have shaped him as an ultrarunner and adventurer. We also dig into the mindset required to take on ambitious challenges and what keeps Jeff coming back for more miles outside. Jeff is also the host of Free Outside, a podcast covering trail running, ultrarunning, thru-hiking, backpacking and outdoor adventure.🎧 Listen to Free Outside: Free Outside on Apple PodcastsLearn more about Jeff and his adventures on his website Free Outside or follow him on Instagram.
In this episode of Weathering The Run, I sit down with Ivi, Chris, and James Stangle of RunFluent Events to talk about the incredible amount of work that goes into growing the trail-running scene in both Florida and Ohio.RunFluent has evolved from an online coaching business into a family-owned operation that puts on trail and ultra-running events across two states. But as we discuss in this episode, their impact goes well beyond race day.We talk about the work that goes into building, maintaining, and improving trails, creating memorable race experiences, supporting runners, and helping introduce more people to trail and ultra running. The amount of time, energy, and sweat that goes into keeping these trails accessible and enjoyable is phenomenal, and a lot of that work happens long before runners ever arrive at the starting line.We also talk about the differences between the trail-running communities in Florida and Ohio, some of the challenges that come with creating races in very different environments, and why investing in the trails and the people who use them is so important to the future of the sport.RunFluent currently organizes trail and ultra events in both Florida and Ohio, with a focus on creating more than just races, but experiences that bring runners together and strengthen the trail-running community.Connect with RunFluent🌐 RunFluent Events: runfluentevents.com📘 RunFluent on Facebook: RunFluent Events on FacebookAbout RunFluentRunFluent is a family-owned business founded by Chris and Ivi Stangle. Todd Hintz is a physical therapist and he loves helping others stay moving. He shares some knowledge and wisdom with us, like how running is not bad for your knees, based on a huge study. Todd also has run a few ultras and is interested in trying to see how far he can run, but also loves running for the joy of it without the restraints of a specific training schedule.
Kevin Goldberg loves to push the limits of how far he can run. He has run several 200+ mile races and we dive into the differences of going that distance. We also talk about some of the crazy weather he has endured with these multi-day events. We had a great chat about the sport of ultra running and finding joy in doing hard things.Check out his Distance to Empty podcast or follow him in Instagram.
This time the tables are turned. My kids asked me, Andrew Buck Michael, a lot of the questions I ask the guests and we had a lot of fun. Summer then had a handful of really insightful questions she came up with at the end about previous guests and what stuck with me from the 88 previous guests. Good stuff!
