This week we’re happy to welcome Alex Choi, making what he tells us is his ‘real’ podcast début whilst also being the youngest guest we’ve ever had on the show. Despite being a hugely well-known streamer and content creator (you may have come across some of his more notorious escapades online), he’s rarely given interviews, until now. Alex tells Scotto about his journey into being a ‘stringer’ and the world of automotive social media that he’s inhabited for a decade, and they get into the challenges along the way: from his complicated youth right up to the present, reconciling all the things he’s seen and believe us – it’s a lot! As for regrets? Well, he’s certainly got a few! Here he is to tell us everything. Enjoy!CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains macabre themes and graphic detail of the aftermath of road traffic accidents and other incidents that Alex has witnessed in the course of his work. “Don’t get it right; just get it running!” - words we could all stand to live by! This week we welcome David Freiburger, colossus of the automotive world who alongside Scotto, forms a mildly senior (sorry.. ‘Authoritative’ ! ) coalition of men yelling at clouds. Though you may know him best from his adventures with Roadkill alongside Mike Finnegan, David’s roots in the car world go back to magazines, with storied career chapters spent at the wheel of multiple titles. Making the jump to video, he put in time at MotorTrend and now, his own YouTube channel. In this hugely wide-ranging conversation, the gents litigate everything from the glory days of heavy metal (Dokken anyone?), to Drag Week and countless records and tales from the drag-strip, even including hearing damage. Crucially though, could David be the guest that finally causes the blind to see and the lame to walk? By which of course I mean poor Scotto, and his unfinished projects – dear Lord, we need a miracle! As ever, enjoy.@DavidFreiburger@BrianScotto@321ActionActionPartners:FCP EuroHeat Wave VisualWera ToolsKW SuspensionsProducer: Nick Rutter @nickrutterartsEditor: Julius Adorsu @adorsu.jMusic: SlikSound Patreon: https://patreon.com/u37266647https://bio.site/321actionactionpodcasts@321actionaction.com00:00 - Welcome & Introduction04:29 - Don’t Get It Right; Just Get It Running08:11 - How Roadkill Happened17:40 - Small Town Road Therapy22:24 - Print to Video Identity Shift26:55 - Sponsor: FCP Euro28:31 - Do You Miss Magazines?38:12 - Hot Rod Legacy and Adventures at the Strip43:42 - Autonomy In Publishing44:13 - Tinnitus Ends NHRA Gig49:02 - Sponsors: Heat Wave Visual, Wera Tools & KW Suspensions50:54 - Great Road Trip Bands53:55 - The Forbidden Guns n’ Roses Artwork58:28 - BMX Nostalgia59:28 - How Drag Week Came to Be01:04:13 - NHRA Today And IHRA01:10:18 - Chasing 350 MPH01:13:51 - Finding Fame on YouTube01:16:14 - Bonneville 200 MPH Club01:21:33 - Land Speed Risks01:22:55 - Future Of Bonneville01:25:35 - Crackdowns And Tire Laws01:29:48 - EV Reality Check01:33:32 - Conspiracy Theories: Ethanol And Burning Junkyards?01:41:06 - Buying A Newer Truck & Why Old Cars Win01:45:04 - Worst Modern Car Tech01:49:21 - Project Car Overload01:56:30 - Solo YouTube Workflow01:57:56 - Personalities Beat Brands02:02:05 - Beating The Algorithm02:05:00 - Building A Model A02:06:43 - Hot Rod Rabbit Holes02:09:00 - Howard Hughes and WWII Submarine Hunting?02:13:24 - Facebook Comment Firestorm02:26:01 - Movie Cars And Licensing02:30:48 - Car Hoarding And Game Clock02:34:17 - Rotating Fleet Philosophy
