In 2008, Kristi McVee was a new mum flicking through the newspaper when a WA Police recruitment ad caught her eye. Less than two years later, she was sworn in as a police officer. Kristi went on to build a career catching child abuse predators, interviewing child victims and putting their abusers behind bars. But one question kept coming back to her: how do you protect these kids before the harm happens? After a decade in the force, she left to focus on prevention education. Now she has dedicated herself to giving parents and caregivers the conversations, tips and advice she believes will help keep children safe. Visit Kristi's website here. In October 2003, newlyweds Gabe and Tina Watson travelled from Alabama to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef for their dream honeymoon. Just 11 days after their wedding, the couple prepared to dive the SS Yongala shipwreck, one of the world’s most famous dive sites. But within minutes of entering the water, Tina was pulled to the surface unconscious. Despite desperate attempts to save her, she could not be revived. What began as a heartbreaking accident soon raised chilling questions. Why were Gabe’s stories inconsistent? And what really happened underwater that day? In this episode, host Gemma Bath speaks with journalist and author Lindsay Simpson, co-author of Honeymoon Dive, to explore a case that captivated the world and still divides opinion more than 20 years on. In March 2019, journalist Justine van der Leun sat in a New York courtroom for the murder trial of Nicole Addimando. After years of abuse, Nikki had shot and killed the father of her two young children after he violently raped her. As the prosecution painted her as a “master manipulator”, Justine was left wondering: was this normal? Determined to find out, she surveyed 10,000 incarcerated women across 27 American states. More than 90 per cent of those who responded reported a history of abuse, and 28 per cent said their crime was a direct act of survival. Purchase Justine's book Unreasonable Women. In November 2013, Dr Dominique Lee arrived at the Sydney apartment of her mentor, Professor John Kearsley, for dinner. He was head of radiation oncology at St George Hospital, and he had been guiding her as she prepared to become a specialist consultant. By the end of the night, her life and career would be derailed for the next decade. Dominique's case was the first in Australian history in which a doctor was sent to jail for sexually assaulting another doctor. In 2026, she remains the only junior doctor to win a criminal case against a senior doctor for sexual assault. In this episode, she tells Gemma about the night that changed everything and the long fight for justice that followed. She also talks about what her case reveals about the culture inside Australian medicine. Purchase Dominique's book, What's Been Broken Is All the More Sharp here. We want to hear from you! Lindsay Clancy's trial for the 2023 killings of her three children ended in a mistrial, but the case has been far from quiet since. In this episode of our mini series, Gemma unpacks everything that has happened since the hung jury. Jurors have spoken out about the one holdout who stopped them reaching a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. Reports have since emerged about that juror's past, and he has now given his own side of the story. Patrick Clancy has also spoken publicly. He and his new wife sat down with 60 Minutes, where he addressed the online conspiracy theories about him and shared what Lindsay told him about the day his children died. Back in court this week, Lindsay's defence made a dramatic shift. At trial, her lawyer argued she wasn't criminally responsible because of mental illness. Now he says prosecutors never proved she killed her children at all. LINKS We want to hear from you! Take our quick 3-minute survey for your chance to win a $1,000 gift card. In March 2008, 57-year-old semi-retired schoolteacher Josephine Greensill opened her front door in suburban Melbourne to find three detectives waiting to arrest her. Two men had accused her of sexually abusing them at a backyard sleepover almost 30 years earlier, when they were eight-year-old boys in her class. No medical experts were ever called, and the jury believed them. Jo spent two and a half years in prison as a convicted child sex offender before her conviction was quashed. The court found the men had colluded and had a financial motive, and that what they described was physically impossible. Award-winning crime reporter Neil Mercer investigated her case, along with eight others, for his book Falsely Convicted. In this episode he tells Gemma about the common sense failures that sent an innocent woman to jail and what her life looked like once she was released. Neil also looks at the cases of Eric Honeysett framed by NSW police in 1983, and Gene Gibson's case. LINKS Purchase Falsely Convicted by Neil Mercer here. We want to hear from you!
