What happens when Michael, Nate, and Stan sit down to talk about their favorite 90s tunes? They get just a little bit sidetracked. This.. is that conversation. In this special bonus spooky-sode, the conversation takes an unexpected turn as the guys dive headfirst into the world of remakes. From childhood staples to cinematic classics, we are breaking down the big question: Do we love them, or do we hate them? More importantly, what is it about the entertainment industry that keeps them constantly recycling our favorite nostalgic properties? We are hoping one of our upcoming guests can clear that up for us! Keep an eye out next month when Jordan Bridger—a PhD, Social Psychologist, Behavioral Scientist, and Linguistic Neuroscientist—stops by the show to break down the science behind our obsession with nostalgia. Plus, our November lineup is absolutely stacked. We will be joined by Brad Gilmore, Houston broadcaster, ESPN CW39 Spotlight host, and author of "Why We Love Back to the Future." We are also thrilled to welcome Thomas D'Aguanno, author of "Welcome to Starstruck." Until then, keep your eyes peeled and your headphones ready. We have a brand-new full episode or a spooky-sode tracking our favorite 90s Halloween classics dropping every single day this week!
It's our regular contributor Stan (aka @Nostaligaatnite) very first minisode, and a SPOOKY-SODE at that! It started in a completely ordinary suburban house where a family was being terrorized by a malevolent entity they called Pipes. The BBC sent a camera crew to shoot a documentary on location, capturing the unexplained activity as it unfolded inside the home. The entity, which began as a series of violent knocks in the plumbing, turned out to be an accumulation of centuries of dark spiritual energy. It remains one of the most chilling hauntings ever captured on film, building to an ending that completely broke the public's reality.
Host Michael Reagan sits down with New York Times Critics’ Pick playwright and viral Vogue essayist Doménica Feraud, whose essay “The Movie Star and Me” sparked widespread conversation, to discuss her debut book, You Are What You See: How My Favorite Shows Became My Worst Influences. Together, Michael and Doménica explore the powerful—and sometimes damaging—ways television, movies, celebrity culture, and the media we grew up with shaped how an entire generation learned to see themselves and the world around them. Their conversation goes beyond simple ’90s nostalgia, diving into the complicated relationship between the entertainment we loved and the messages we absorbed along the way. Doménica opens up about her own experiences while she and Michael discuss topics including body image and disordered eating, sex and sexuality, assault, representation, and the lasting influence of pop culture. Because of the mature and sensitive nature of these topics, this episode of The 90s Rewind Report has been rated Explicit. Michael, Nate, & Stan's conversation about Pennywise didn't end when the mics cut. The guys continue discussing the film "IT" and take a few detours along the way into topics like Bates Motel, Stranger Things, and even a short film about what would have happened if Georgie had survived his encounter with pennywise. Don't forget to come back Monday to check out S03E26: You Are What You See A conversation w/ Doménica Feraud. Doménica is a New York Times Critics Pick Playwright & viral essayist for Vogue with her essay "The Movie Star and Me" - Doménica sits down with host Michael Reagan to discuss her new book "You Are What You See: How My Favorite Shows Became My Worst Influences". This Halloween, Host Nate Lane is turning back the pages to one of the most terrifying book collections of the ’90s! Nate takes us back to the school library shelves where Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark had an entire generation of kids reading by flashlight… and questioning every strange noise they heard for years after. Written by Alvin Schwartz and brought to life by Stephen Gammell’s nightmare-inducing illustrations, the original trilogy began with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1981), followed by More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones (1991). These books may have haunted ’90s childhoods, but their roots reach much further back, drawing from folklore, traditional ghost stories, and urban legends passed down for generations—some older than our Great Grandparents! Join Nate for a quick trip through this legendary horror trilogy and revisit the stories that made library visits, sleepovers, and turning off the bedroom lights a whole lot scarier. 👻📚
BEEP BEEP Richie. 🤡 Fire up your VCRs and grab your yellow raincoats! This week, Michael Reagan and Nate Lane are heading into the sewers of Derry, Maine alongside recurring contributor and resident retro expert Stan (aka @nostalgiaatnite on Instagram). The guys are tackling the legendary, star-studded 1990 made-for-TV miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. In this episode, the trio breaks down the phenomenal dual-timeline cast, dissects the terrifyingly brilliant plot, and revisits the moments that absolutely paralyzed them with fear as kids. From Tim Curry’s charismatic, nightmare-inducing performance as Pennywise the Dancing Clown to the parts they still absolutely love today, no stone is left unturned. And yeah… they definitely talk about that infamous stop-motion spider ending. If this deep dive doesn't completely fill your floating balloon, worry not! The guys couldn't possibly fit all their Pennywise praise into just one episode. We have a special Behind-the-Scenes Companion Piece dropping next week! Don't forget to follow Stan on Instagram @nostalgiaatnite for your daily dose of retro goodness, and remember... they all float down here!
