Would you look at that, the Sooners win! It wasn't the prettiest game in the world, but there are definitely things to be happy about after Oklahoma's 23-15 win over Mississippi State. John Mateer, hats off. Peyton Bowen is possibly the best safety in college football. Isaiah Sategna did exactly what your star wide receiver should do. I have no answers for Tate Sandell, though, sorry. While there was no Kamario Taylor, the defense still showed up despite the opposing offense having little fight to give. Is this team fixed? No. But a win in this league, especially with great teams dropping left and right, you better cherish every win you can get. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Oklahoma is back to its old self...from three weeks ago. In all honesty, the offense looked promising for 3 quarters. The loss of a fully healthy Ryan Fodje wasn't a shot the Sooners were built to take. John Mateer made the same mistakes we saw before Texas, and now we wonder: what does OU do next? Is it time to look toward the future? Is this the most disappointing start to a season in recent memory? I mean, Eddie and George get INTO IT in this one. Frustrations are high for everyone, but the season isn't over yet. What moves do the Sooners make in hopes of saving what's left of this season? All that and more on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. *Trade on College Football games every week on Polymarket. *Download the Polymarket App with code ON3 for a $20 bonus upon sign up. https://app.polymarket.us/S8ac/ON3 *Trading not available in all jurisdictions. The Oklahoma Sooners did the unthinkable. They went into the Cotton Bowl and played a turnover free game, found some room to run and let the defense and special teams score touchdowns. Meanwhile the Sooners were much better this year containing Arch Manning, although he did hit a few big passes on the OU secondary that was missing starting corner Eli Bowen. And the Lou Groza version of Tate Sandell showed up to hit the game winner from 47 yards out as time expired. We recap all the good things in this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. And what does this mean for the rest of the season? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
John Mateer was the biggest reason the Sooners fell behind and lost any chance of competing with Georgia Saturday in Athens. Carey, Eddie and George all weigh in on not just how the team played, but what should happen next. Why didn't the Sooners move away from Mateer and try something else? Is there any good that came out of Mateer's performance outside of the turnovers. And why would that even matter? Oklahoma lost 41-13 at the hands of Georgia. The offense, bad. The defense, held it's own at times. Play calling, not the worst we've seen. The turnovers, wow! The bye week is here, Red River is up next and honestly, Carey is the only one showing even the slightest glimpse of hope? Eddie and George on the other hand...well just watch and you'll see. Let's preface this by pointing out that the Sooners did win. However, getting booed by your own fanbase is concerning. The defense was great, but once again the offense was just awful. From the indecisiveness in the run game to constant mistakes, the unit isn't good enough to play, let alone in the SEC. The road doesn't get any easier from here as a road game at Georgia and the Red River Rivalry await. Do the guys see any hope? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for Ben Arbuckle's offense? Controversy from last week didn't matter, Oklahoma walked in to Ann Arbor and just got whooped. From terribly quarterback play, a struggling offensive line, and a run game that just isn't working; this was a rough one. Do I really need to tell you that though? I mean that's why you are here. Well the wait is over, Oklahoma has played a football game in 2026. The offense had quite the day with plenty of different Sooners reaching the endzone, and wait...how many tight ends were on the field? The defense did their part in the shutout, I mean it was a shutout after all; but Brent Venables wasn't too pleased with the group. Either way, game one was a success for Oklahoma as they prepare to make the trip North to Ann, Arbor Michigan to take on the Wolverines.
