DCS's Forgotten Module from the Forgotten War. F-86 SabreThe F-86 Sabre is one of DCS’s most underrated jets. In this episode, Harper, FiFi, and Scud make the case for giving it another look. They explore the Saber’s Korean War history, its strengths and frustrations in DCS, and why this challenging early jet can be so rewarding to fly. From six .50-caliber guns and a temperamental radar-ranging gunsight to tricky bomb systems, rocket attacks, and the infamous LAB bomb toss, the crew gets into the details that make the F-86 distinctive. They also compare it with the MiG-15, discuss the Saber’s dogfighting strengths and weaknesses, and share what happened when Harper and Scud went head-to-head.The conversation asks a bigger question, too: does this excellent but overlooked module need a proper Korean War home in DCS? The hosts talk about the aircraft, missions, and campaigns that could help bring the era to life, and look ahead to the MiG-17 and other jets that might add to it.Expect aviation history, hands-on DCS talk, plenty of laughs, and a few detours into flight sims and gaming along the way.Timestamps00:00 Opening tune, bloopers, and welcome00:50 The F-86 episode begins, sponsors, and partners03:11 Meet Harper, Australian pilot and DCS creator04:49 Harper’s DCS experience and favorite module09:36 Gun Hot Questions16:22 The F-86 Sabre, a forgotten module from the Forgotten War16:41 A quick history of the F-86 and the Korean War19:27 The F-86’s guns versus the MiG-15’s cannons20:36 Harper’s first impressions of the Sabre22:06 Has the F-86 module aged?26:29 Cockpit layout, seating position, and dive-angle markings30:23 Engine, energy management, and flying the Sabre32:11 F-86 versus MiG-15, tactics and dogfighting34:23 Systems, speed brakes, fuel, and nosewheel steering36:00 Weapons systems and Scud’s bomb-dropping rant38:02 The six .50 cals, rockets, bombs, and the F-86’s versatility41:15 The radar-ranging gunsight and why it can be frustrating44:42 Using the gunsight for rocket attacks45:19 Bombing tables, the automatic bomb system, and the LAB system50:42 The bomb toss, launching a bomb upward to escape the blast53:12 Is the F-86 fun to fly in DCS?54:23 The case for a Korean War environment58:44 Harper and Scud take the F-86 and MiG-15 into a dogfight60:54 MiG-15 maneuvering, speed, and the danger of compressibility63:54 A mountain ambush and a hard-earned F-86 kill67:23 Why the Sabre is an underrated module68:29 Looking ahead to the MiG-1770:04 Final thoughts, give the F-86 a try71:17 Is the module worth the price?72:47 Harper’s advice, trial it and give it a chance75:15 Closing remarks and the Patreon post-showAbout the showHigh Alpha Hooligans talks DCS, aircraft, aviation, and flight simulation with a mix of deep dives, flying stories, and irreverent banter.
DCS Back to Basics: Catching Up on the Community’s Hottest TopicsEPISODE DESCRIPTION - Ready to publishThe DCS community is shifting, AI is becoming impossible to ignore, and one patch note just kicked off a full-on argument about how bombs should actually work. If you fly DCS, build missions, or care about where the sim is headed next, this episode is packed with the kind of inside-baseball conversation you do not want to miss.Scud, Fifi, and Jimmy return for a true “state of the sim” catch-up, talking through the recent slowdown in multiplayer activity, why summer burnout and repetitive missions may be hitting harder than usual, and what that means for server hosts, mission makers, and the health of the ecosystem. They also break down the growing role of AI in DCS, from mission scripting and ATC to AI GCI tools like SkyEye and Say Intentions, plus the line between using AI as a tool and letting it replace actual creativity. You'll discover:Why DCS multiplayer feels quieter than normal this summerHow mission repetition and creator burnout may be shaping player behaviorWhere AI genuinely helps DCS, and where it becomes a shortcut instead of a solutionWhat the community is getting right, and wrong, about AI thumbnails, scripts, and contentWhy a recent bomb-fusing change has the hosts talking about penetration, delay fusing, and realistic effectsThe conversation gets especially sharp when the crew unpacks the new weapon behavior update and what it means for hardened targets, impact angle, velocity, and proper weaponeering. Fifi brings real-world targeteering perspective, Jimmy adds practical mission-building insight, and Scud keeps the discussion focused on what DCS players will actually need to understand as the sim gets more realistic. They also share a few lighter moments along the way, including the now-immortal Mazdock Meat Grinder, a ridiculous Expo story, and a quick shoutout to some of the coolest people they met in the broader sim and milsim world. If you want the episode that captures where DCS is right now, what is changing, and what might come next, this is it.Essential listening for DCS pilots, mission makers, sim nerds, and anyone trying to keep up with the future of combat flight simming.00:00 Cold Open: The Flying Fox00:40 Welcome to High Aval Hooligans02:50 Back to Basics — What the Crew’s Been Up To09:23 Civil Hooligans & Microsoft Flight Sim Plans10:26 Is DCS Activity Slowing Down?18:55 AI’s Place in DCS33:47 A More Consistent Podcast Schedule36:23 The Mazdok Meat Grinder39:02 DCS Weapon Updates: Fusing, Penetration & Bomb Effects61:43 The F-4 vs. Concrete Test64:44 Community Outreach, Dad Advice & Wrap-Up

Operation Wags brought together the DCS community for one of the biggest, most chaotic, and most meaningful events we’ve ever had the privilege of being part of.Over two absolutely unhinged weekends, creators, pilots, mission builders, GCI teams, developers, and communities from across DCS threw down on Blue and Red for nonstop combat, questionable decision-making, unexpected heroics, and a whole lot of laughs, all in support of Wags.Weekend One was basically a Fox 3-fueled meat grinder. Weekend Two? We took the Fox 3s away and politely encouraged everyone to settle their differences at much closer range. Predictably, violence ensued. In this episode, we break down the ridiculous scale of Operation Wags, some of our favorite moments from the air and ground, the stats, giveaways, behind-the-scenes insanity, and the incredible people and organizations who helped make the whole thing possible.More importantly, Operation Wags proved what can happen when this community decides to rally around one of its own. There were fights. There were laughs. There were friendships made. There were questionable tactical decisions. There may have even been an OPSEC violation or two.But somehow, against all odds and probably several sections of the Geneva Suggestions, we pulled it off.Operation Wags may be over, but what this community accomplished won't be forgotten anytime soon.#OperationWags #DCSWorld #DigitalCombatSimulator #HighAlphaHooligans #DCSCommunity #FlightSim #MilitaryAviation #CombatFlightSim #EagleDynamics #VirtualAviation #FlightSimulation #DCS

From GCI coordination and air-to-air chaos to logistics runs, base strikes, and unforgettable moments in the skies, this episode captures the energy of a community coming together for a cause. We also talk about the event’s biggest lessons, what worked, what didn’t, and what’s coming next as the battle continues into the next weekend. Along the way, the crew celebrates the people behind the scenes, the creators flying on both sides, and the huge fundraising milestone for Matt Wagner. If you love DCS, large-scale multiplayer events, tactical air combat, and the kind of stories only a community event like this can create, this episode is for you.Highlights:Operation Wags recap and opening weekend chaosMassive server turnout and packed PvP battlesGCI, ATC, and coordination tactics that shaped the fightMemorable kills, crashes, and hilarious stream momentsWhat’s changing for next weekendThe mission to support Matt Wagner and the DCS communitySubscribe for more DCS community content, event coverage, and behind-the-scenes conversations from the pilots and organizers making it all happen.#DCS #OperationWags #FlightSim #CombatFlightSimulation #DCSWorld #Aviation #MultiplayerGaming #SimAviation #MattWagner #Riverside
